VANCE CREEK are a post-grunge indie band based in Shelton, WA, formed summer 2021 in a time when live music was at a full halt. Long time friends Chelsey Campell and Ty Barnhart began playing acoustic covers together in Chelsey's living room, quickly adding Levi Campell (Chelsey's younger brother) on percussion and Cole Roswe on bass. Levi had previously been in a band with bassist Cole. Ty's interest and passion for playing guitar was sparked at a young age by the loss of a dear musician friend. Ty and Chelsey played acoustically together at open mics when they were much younger, which caused the conception of VANCE CREEK in 2021, after Ty took a long break from playing. All growing up as local friends, bonded by their passion for music, the four decided to move to a full band electric setting and began writing new songs.
The final addition to the line up was Southern Californian transplant Eric Boudreau. Eric had toured previously in the hardcore music scene, playing bass for the band My Iron Lung, but VANCE CREEK needed a lead guitarist and he took to the challenge. The first time Chelsey met Eric, working at a local subway, they began to talk about music and she invited him to come to her band's rehearsal, to which he was reluctant at first. Cole and Eric had also met briefly at a bar and talked about music for hours, so when he showed up to that first practice and saw Cole was there he knew he fit right in.
Now a five piece, VANCE CREEK was already booking shows faster than they could learn material to play for their set. The next few months was a blur of songwriting as they just wrote and learned whatever music they could to fill up show time. Through this process they wrote over 10 songs in a very short time.
Chelsey and Levi grew up watching their father's rock n roll band practice in the basement where Chelsey was too shy to sing and Levi would fall asleep on the couch to the banging of drums. Her father discovered she could sing at an early age when he overheard her singing along to the Kim Possible theme song. He helped her to sing that song with her sisters at a party which was her first time ever singing in front of people.
With family and friendship at its center VANCE CREEK is a deep powerhouse of passion and positvity. The band of friends were drawn together in a time where all was uncertain, by their bond and love of music. Onlookers from the crowd see the authenticity almost as if the band had all known each other forever and remark that the band is all equal in love and kinship.
"We're excited to record and see where this will go. We're a brand new band with lots of potential and hopes" - says Chelsey. "Life tries to get us to go a different direction than playing music and following our dreams, at times we all succumb to this loss of childlike wonder. But doing that would not be true to ourselves" - added Eric
"We are all just happy to be back in it now that we're playing music again. We've got plans to record and release an album soon, so please come check out one of our shows and say hi!" - VANCE CREEK
